Great first day of the Australian Championships. Windy conditions were obvious when we woke up at 5AM (the jetlag is still hanging in there) and we all could hear the wind whistling through the windows of the condo. Storm fronts rolling in from the Indian Ocean brought waves of squalls and pretty good breeze. Race 1 we had white out conditions on the second beat of the race with torrential downpours and lots of wind. The runs were very exciting under large black clouds that brought more and more wind. Our San Francisco Bay experience came in handy and those without big breeze experience showed why it's important.
Race Chairman said the breeze topped out at 35 knots. We don't really know but the continuous administration of ibufrofen and Australian beer is helping the aches and pains.
As of right now, we are the top American team. Saturday looking to have lighter breezes. Stay tuned.
